Q&A: Will breastfeeding leave my breasts sagged?

accreditation

SR Linda Britz (lactation consultant) answers:

Breastfeeding does not cause sagging breasts, as is commonly believed. In fact, the hormone called Relaxin which is responsible for softening your ligaments during pregnancy, may make your breasts feel heavier.

Once you have established your breastfeeding and your baby is in a regular feeding pattern, your breasts actually retain shape very well, filling for feeds and softening once baby has fed, but in fact you are most probably going to feel quite voluptuous on your wedding day. Make sure you are well supported, in your choice of dress, and be aware that on occasion some women leak, especially when the love hormone is flowing, so ensure that you feel confident and that the brassiere part of your outfit has an extra built-in, layer.

Attend a breastfeeding preparation class to learn what to expect, and how to manage feeding your baby on your special day. Wishing you happiness in the next few exciting months.
