World’s Biggest Baby Shower to be hosted in Johannesburg
Johannesburg Child Welfare will attempt to break a Guinness World record this March!
Pampers® is donating 10 000 nappies to the World’s biggest baby shower, taking place on 20 to 23 March at the Kids & Baby Expo at Emperors Palace.

Jeanne du Plessis, Communication Manager for Pampers South Africa, says: “Pampers is committed to helping wherever we can. Baby care is our business and we are honoured to be able to give back to our communities through such a worthy cause.”

The event is hosted by Johannesburg Child Welfare (JCW) and it will attempt to break a Guinness World record by collecting 13 tons of baby products to be donated to children’s homes and community-based organisations in Johannesburg.

According to Belinda Abraham, Johannesburg Child Welfare’s senior fund developer, approximately 200 children are abandoned each month in Johannesburg alone. The organisation desperately needs help in taking care of these children and items donated during this event will be distributed for just this purpose. Recipients for these products include Othandweni Children's Home in Soweto, the Princess Alice Adoption home in Westcliff and 65 community-based organisations in Johannesburg. In addition, one needy mum will receive a complete nursery and baby supplies.

The wish-list of donations includes
- Disposable nappies
- Pre-Nan formula
- Pelargon formula
- Stationery
- Medications
- Teething powders
- Toys
- Bottles
- Baby wipes
- Other non-perishable products

Staff from P&G, the manufacturers of Pampers, will also be involved in this initiative and will be volunteering their time to assist on the day.

For those unable to attend the show there will be collection points at East Rand Mall, Kids Emporium store in Morningside and Discovery Health offices where people can drop-off their donations. The public is also invited to bring their goods to the expo and be a part of the celebration.

About Johannesburg Child Welfare

Jo’burg Child Welfare (JCW) provides direct services to children aged 0 – 18 and through our Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Forum, we assist community based organisations in providing services to orphaned and vulnerable children within the communities they serve. In realising that we are not able to help every child ourselves, we invest considerable resources in working well with other role players to ensure that as many children in need as possible are assisted.
