IN PICS: A special moment between moms and their rainbow babies

We often see all these amazing videos and images online showing a mother’s excitement after telling her partner that she’s pregnant, or seeing a family rejoice after a well-thought-out and always wonderful gender reveal.

But sometimes, things aren’t all laughter and smiles, 9-month countdowns and viral videos. Sometimes they’re more down than up and the baby you’ve been dreaming about meeting for so long, doesn’t arrive in quite the way you expected.

Losing a baby, whether it’s through miscarriage or stillbirth, is heartbreaking.

Some mothers choose to commemorate their loss with beautiful and striking photos, as we saw in The Empty Project.

A rainbow baby is a baby born after a loss due to miscarriage or stillbirth. Rainbow babies are particularly special because they show us that although we sometimes have to weather the storm, it will eventually end, and soon after, there may even be a beautiful rainbow.

While we know that there are so many different ways to heal and every mother heals differently from such an overwhelming loss, there is still hope. And we found it so inspiring to see how radiant and gorgeous these mothers looked as they remembered the love they had for those that had passed and celebrated the birth of their rainbow babies with these stunning photoshoots.

"After every storm there is a rainbow of hope" What an absolutely beautiful sight to see, capture and bring together. I have been dreaming of this shot for months. Even with the wind trying to ruin my day, I pulled it off finally and I am so grateful for the opportunity to capture this moment in time. Each of these mommies suffered a loss before they finally got their rainbow baby. I have been wanting to celebrate life, breastfeeding, and the bond these mother have for a very long time. This moment sums it all up and has so much story and feeling behind it that my heart is forever warmed. Vegas was a beautiful sight from this view point, and it happened to make the perfect backdrop for my vision.
