Our readers respond: multiple pregnancies in one family

accreditation

After reading about the unusual occurrence of how four sisters are pregnant at the same time, our readers shared their experiences and thoughts with us.

Two pregnant sisters gave birth on the same day:

My older sister and I found out in 2014 that we were both expecting. (Three of our cousins were also expecting.)

Our babies were due a week apart, but my sister's first scan indicated that she was pregnant with twins. Our doctor (we used the same OBGYN) indicated that by 37 weeks a Caesarian would be advisable. This meant that her babies would be born much earlier than mine.

We had wonderful pregnancies, as we could share our journeys, joys, lows and body aches and pains.

This is how the story ended: On the day that my sister gave birth I had hurriedly gone to visit her with balloons and prezzies.

I ended up being admitted, as my baby did not want to be left behind! Yes, I was in labour!

Our sons are now 2-years-old, they share a birthday and special bond.

Look out! You may catch a... pregnancy?

A family tally increases by five:

In 2013 we expected 5 babies. We were all first-time parents and we didn't know that we were pregnant.

The first was my cousin Mary, who gave birth in March. Then it was me, I gave birth in May and then my cousin's wife on July 2nd.

My younger sister gave birth on the 16th of July, then my other cousin's wife on the 27th of July.

We have 3 boys and 2 girls. All born the same year, but months apart.

A family thing:

Three Gauteng brothers:

I have the same story whereby myself and my younger two brothers have wives who are pregnant at the same time too!

When it extends to the in-laws:
