The countdown is down to single digits! A-Bundlely Blessed Diaries #16

Week 33. The countdown is down to single digits!
Week 33. The countdown is down to single digits!

Ever since we found out that we’re expecting triplets, the goal has always been to get to 34 weeks.

Triplets are usually born between 32 and 34 weeks because the risks of complications increase, the longer they stay inside. The babies will then be born via c-section on a date decided by my gyne.

Writing this, it still feels so surreal knowing that soon we’ll finally meet our three little blessings. Last week I had my last scheduled appointment with my gynae, and it was so uncomfortable! Not only for me but for my doctor too.

Baby C is laying really low and he made it a bit difficult to get his exact measurements.Baby A had the most comfortable position out of the lot, while baby B was like nestled in between the other two.

But they’re doing great so far. They’re still picking up weight and currently weigh 1.9kgs each.On my side, it’s just the Braxton Hicks contractions that are getting the better of me. I’ve been experiencing it so frequently that it got Nicolyn a bit worried.

The other night he asked whether I’m done packing my bags, just in case we need to rush to get to the hospital.

Back to my last appointment with my gynae… he said he’s extremely proud of how far we’ve come.

He again assured us the neonatal unit is ready and eagerly awaiting the babies’ arrival and they’ve taken a keen interest in our well-being.

He also took us through the whole process explaining exactly what to expect on the day of the delivery and how things will work when we are in the theatre.

In other news, it’s been a while since I last saw my work besties. However, what I didn’t know was that they’ve been secretly conspiring with Nicolyn to surprise me.Although I was in shock for most of the evening, we had a lekker braai and a great catch-up session.

It’s also been heartwarming to see how our friends have taken time out of their busy schedules to pop in or to send messages of support just to make sure we’re okay before the babies arrive.

Guess the next time we’ll have a proper kuier we would’ve adjusted into our new roles as a family of six.

I’m slowly reaching the end of my pregnancy journey. And to say that I’m a bag of mixed emotions is an understatement.

Nicolyn recently asked me how I’m feeling, and honestly, the closer we get to 34 weeks, the more emotional I become.

I think it’s because up until the moment the babies are born, we still don’t know how our lives are going to change and what the challenges of having triplets and a toddler will be.

Being pregnant this time around definitely had its ups and downs. But the love and support I received, especially from Nicolyn and my mom, made a huge difference.

Nicolyn has had to keep up with all my moaning and groaning, but he still motivates me every morning to keep going. He’s also the first one to get excited and compliment me when we reach the end of another week. This pregnancy has really brought us closer as a couple.

I know I said last week that I’ll write about what I’m going to miss about being pregnant, but the Braxton Hicks contractions have been so bad today, that it’s overshadowing everything I wanted to say and how I feel presently.

Maybe next week we’ll be in a better space.

Until next time!
