Being a parent is a truly magical experience because you instantly have a love you never thought existed in you, a love so responsible, nurturing and protective. It’s then only natural to want only the best for your baby.

And it’s worse when you’re a new parent; you just want to buy everything your baby could possibly need. But has anyone ever told you of the things that aren’t necessary?

Well, DRUM compiled a five-item list of things your baby could do without. It might even save up all that cash and open a trust fund to secure your baby’s future.

1. Fancy Changing Tables

Your baby will poop a lot, but buying a special changing table for them is not a necessity. Buying a changing pad or changing cushion to place your baby comfortably while changing their nappy would suffice.

A fancy changing table will just be expensive, and take up room in your home, while only serving one purpose.

2. Wipe Warmers

It can be very serious when babies have a cold, but a cold will rarely be caused by wet wipes that haven’t been warmed. So buying a machine to specifically warm the wipe before it touches your baby’s skin is a bit ridiculous. Think about the power it will use up as well. Still a need?

3. Portable Pacifier Sanitizing Wipes

Speaking of wipes, buying wipes to wipe your baby’s pacifier every millionth time it falls is not a must. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wiping it with a clean sleeve or cloth.

4. Fancy bedding for the crib

Believe it or not, your baby will not stay a baby forever, they will definitely grow. So buying them expensive bedding sets for their cribs is not something to be prioritised.

5. Shoes and expensive clothing

Again, babies eventually grow up, it’s kind of natural. They don’t need expensive clothes, because they will outgrow them at a terrifying speed. And shoes? Let’s think about it, do babies really need shoes? They’re not walking, so why buy them shoes? To keep baby’s feet warm, rather buy warm socks.
