You are making memories for your family and that's all that matters

accreditation

Earlier this year I had the great privilege to travel overseas with my children. It was the first time they had been on an aeroplane for longer than the hour and a bit it takes you to get to Durbs! And I won’t lie, the thought of an 11+ hour flight with two kids was resulting in mommy having serious heart palpitations. I trawled my more adventurous mom friends – many of whom have travelled long haul several times with kids much younger than mine – for some tips. The most important advice that really stuck with me was from my friend Sam who said, and I quote, “To be honest if you don’t stress about it then they won’t and keep in mind (it’s my flight mantra) that it’s only a few hours in the bigger holiday picture.” So with that nugget of absolute wisdom we set off only to have a really easy flight and the holiday of a lifetime. This summer I wish for you the same. Travelling with tots is daunting. But it’s a tiny part of the bigger picture, so go off and enjoy yourselves and don’t let the way you get there overshadow the whole experience. You are making memories for your family and that is what matters (not the huffy passengers who roll their eyes at kids on planes!) And if you just can’t travel this holiday because your baby is too small or you can’t face it, don’t stress, holidays will be back! Check out our dossier on page 62 for those mom’s tips, advice on what to pack – plus we also unpack those new travel rules that are so confusing. Have a lekker time everyone...
