Traffic affects preterm birth?


Women living near major, heavily-trafficked roads were more likely to give birth prematurely, perhaps due to traffic-related air pollution, according to a Japanese study.

Multivitamins may not be so bad


Women who take vitamins have fewer premature babies. It was found that women who take multivitamins regularly around the time they get pregnant appear to have a lower risk of going into labour prematurely or having a smaller-than-normal baby.

Shift work may have little impact on pregnancy

Women working night or rotating shifts did have a slightly higher chance of having a baby who was small for gestational age, but the evidence was not strong enough to make "confident conclusions," the researchers reported in the journal BJOG.

It is been suggested that gum disease raises the risk of preterm birth in pregnant women and it was thought that getting rid of gum disease may potentially reduce the risk of preterm delivery.
