CRAFT: Colour me playdough

accreditation

You will need:

  • A colouring-in book that you can cut pages out of.
  • Plastic sleeves or adhesive clear plastic sheets.
  • Scissors.
  • Playdough of different colours.

Before the real fun can take place, you need to create a book of playdough pictures to be coloured in.

Step one

Neatly tear the pages of your toddler’s choice out of the colouring-in book and neatly trim the edges of the paper.

Step two

Cover the front and back of each page with the adhesive plastic, or place the pages into individual plastic sleeves.

Step three

Punch a hole on the side of each, or use the holes in the plastic sleeves, and tie the pages together using ribbon or metal rings (from a craft shop) to create a book of pictures.

Step four

Let your child “colour” in with the playdough. She’ll have to shape each piece of playdough to fit into the sections of the picture. This will boost creativity, and develop fine motor skills. Ask her to do specific things, like make a worm in an apple, or do the sprinkles on a cupcake.

Once she is finished:

Separate the mixed playdough pieces into their colours and put them back in their tubs, wipe the plastic sheets and store them for the next playtime
