I love my dinosaur
Nothing says love like a plastic stegosaurus, if you’re five.
What is it with little boys and dinosaurs?

Go into any preschool classroom and there’s at least one little boy who can name you any dinosaur, and explain exactly what their predatory habits were. He usually has strong convictions on what caused dinosaurs to become extinct, and can draw a pretty convincing pterodactyl.

Call an apatosaurus a ‘brontosaur’, and he’ll look at you patronisingly, as only a clever child can do to an apparently witless adult.

He will not have a passion for Barney, on the grounds that Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination and not from the Jurassic period.

The passion for dinosaurs usually starts with a plastic dinosaur set, and you know the passion is building in your child when he starts going to bed with a triceratops clutched in his hand.

The Lego stegosaurus is just the kind of toy that will tempt a dad to get a bit over-involved and perhaps shove his son out of the way, muttering, ‘I’m playing with this now.’

For slightly older dinosaur lovers, the Dinosaur King battle game gives an excuse to keep on loving the old creatures well into the tweens.

Is your kid a dinomaniac? Or does he or she have a different passion? Send us photos of your kids with their current loves to chatback@parent24.com and we could include it in a gallery.
