The local leg of Global NPO INMED has teamed up with its sister organisation Partnerships for Children to create a free e-book aimed at helping children understand everything they need to know about the coronavirus.

8-page illustrated e-book

The 8-page illustrated e-book is centred around two young boys from Soweto, Muzi and Jimmy, who talk about the virus, how it is spread, what the symptoms are and how to self-test.

The book also dispels many common coronavirus myths making the rounds.

"It uses simple language and explains concepts in a calm and reassuring way," explains INMED South Africa's Programmes Director, Unathi Sihlahla.

Sihlahla notes that while the e-book is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, it should be viewed as a useful aid to educate and empower young South African children in a relatable way.

Given that internet access is a limited resource in SA, the organisations hope to raise enough funding to print and distribute the booklet nationally.
