J.K. Rowling has again proven why she's one of the most loved authors, releasing a children's fairy tale for free to kids around the world.

"Over 10 years ago, I wrote a stand-alone fairy tale called The Ickabog... Until very recently, the only people who'd heard the story of The Ickabog were my two younger children," she shared via Twitter announcing the news.

Sharing more about The Ickabog via Jkrowling.com, the author says the book was meant to be published right after the last instalment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

But after deciding to take an extended break from children's books, The Ickabog remained a work in progress, until now.

'Immersed in a fictional world'

The story had been literally buried away in her attic, and Rowling says the inspiration to start working on the story again hit her a few weeks ago.

"I've been immersed in a fictional world I thought I'd never enter again. As I worked to finish the book, I started reading chapters nightly to the family again. This was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my writing life."

Rowling shared that she'll "be posting a chapter (or two, or three) every weekday between 26th May and 10th July on The Ickabog website."
