Disturbing ‘Kylie Jenner Challenge’ injures teens
Teens post snaps of disfigured faces after adopting challenge on social media.

A disturbing trend is proving that not all teens have common sense: the #KylieJennerChallenge sees kids using shot glasses or small bottles to create a vacuum against their mouths, sucking their lips up to ridiculous proportions, supposedly in emulation of Kardashian sibling Kylie Jenner.

Doctors are warning that the trend can lead to temporary skin damage or, what’s even worse, if done repeatedly, the challenge may lead to permanent disfigurement.

According to Washington Post, a surgical dermatologist stated that the suction technique could lead to severe bruising, pain, swelling and potential scarring.

Another skin specialist said that there’s a risk that the glass vessels being used could shatter under the pressure and cause serious injuries.

Kylie Jenner has not made any comment on the trend other than to insist that her lips are completely natural, according to Elle.

UPDATE: 22/04: Kylie has since commented on Twitter:

Teens haven’t been dissuaded from participating, a search on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge reveals the horrific results of the “experiment”. Some users expressed horror at the effects which can last for hours or even days.

It shouldn’t have to be said, but, as with all things common-sense related, parents should consider monitoring their kid’s social media accounts and, if a child is found to be participating in risky dares, remind them of the dangers. It should be noted that some sensible teens are ridiculing the challenge.

Do you monitor your teen’s social media accounts?
