Looking for something completely different to impress friends, colleagues or family? You'll be pleased to hear that Canopy Tours South Africa have just announced the launch of full moon tours at the Karkloof Canopy Tour in KZN. This is to celebrate Karkloof Canopy Tour's ten year anniversary in September 2013 as well as provide a new market for night time adventure activities.

Canopy Tours take people up into a previously inaccessible realm of nature whereby platforms built high within the upper level of indigenous forests or against the cliffs of ancient mountains are joined by spectacular long cable slides high above the forest floor. The full moon tour will see people sliding through the forest and over the top of moonlight treetops into the warm glow of each new platform. The full moon tours will take place on one designated evening each month and will include a specially prepared fireside dinner on the edge of the forest after the tour.

The Canopy Tour concept originated in the lush rain forests of Costa Rica where adventurous biologists, desperate to study the diversity of animal life that habituates the upper canopy level of forests, devised a system of cables and platforms that would allow them to explore this previously inaccessible ecosystem. It wasn’t long before this developed into a breathtaking eco-tourism activity that not only allowed people to enter and experience the upper realm of a rainforest, but raised awareness to the plight and beauty of the world’s endangered indigenous forests. Safety is paramount and the Canopy Tours ® have been built in accordance with strict civil engineering standards. Rigorous maintenance schedules have been put in place to ensure the long term safety of each system.

You may prefer flying along the slides with the wind in your hair, or else it will be relaxing and absorbing the tranquillity of your natural surroundings on each of the platforms that you'll remember most. Trained canopy guides ensure the safety of each group while describing interesting facts about the fauna, flora and ecology of the surrounding environment. Suitable for anyone between the ages of 5 and 75, Canopy Tours are great for the whole family, nature lovers, thrill seekers and corporate groups! A Canopy Tour currently costs R450pp and includes all equipment, 4x4 vehicle ride into the forest, trained nature guides, the tour itself, refreshments and a light lunch.

There are currently six Canopy Tour locations in the country – Tsitsikamma (Garden Route); Karkloof (Natal Midlands); Magaliesberg (Gauteng/North-West); Magoebaskloof (Limpopo); Drakensberg (KZN) and Malolotja (Swaziland). Each Canopy Tour takes place in a completely different environment and is a unique experience on its own. A seventh Canopy Tour is being built at the moment on the outskirts of Cape Town and will open in January 2014.

The Canopy Tours Frequent Flyer program now allows clients to receive discounts on subsequent Canopy Tours, culminating in your 4th Canopy Tour for free! To book your daytime or full moon tour, please go to Canopy Tours.
