Ouma's response to Facebook stalking
"I have been a Facebook stalker but only in the nicest possible way."

Read: My Ouma the Facebook stalker

Busted!  Of course they probably all knew that I stalked them on Facebook, watched romances develop and, yes, saw a couple of romances fade.  With nine grandchildren now all in their adult years, it has been wonderful tracking their lives from childhood via Facebook.  Besides the love interest, there have been the overseas trips, the studies, the new jobs, the physical aches and pains, together with all the hopes, dreams and ambitions.

When they were still at school I don’t think they would ever have sent me printed photos of their school dance clothes but there on Facebook I could see not only their outfits but those of all their friends. And so it continued with the graduation photos, engagement photos and even the photos from a wedding I was not able to attend.

One of my grandsons did something wonderful – he started a Family group and that has proved fantastic for birthday greetings, sharing memories, photos from the past and events of the future.

One of the nicest aspects of Facebook is not just that I was able to share in my grandchildren’s lives but I also got to know their friends.  On a recent trip to Cape Town I could meet a lot of their friends in the flesh for the first time but I already knew lots of about them and could recognize them straight away from their profile pictures.

So right, Caira, I have been a Facebook stalker but only in the nicest possible way.
