Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams rolled up his fist yet again in doubling up his push for the top award this season by topping up a little achievement in his pocket.

Williams kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over TS Galaxy and to achieve that saved Bernard Parker’s penalty late in the game.

With debate about the who will win the PSL Footballer of the Season and DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season awards already in peak, Williams is featuring prominently.

There is no argument he will keep the Goalkeeper of the Season having kept 28 clean sheets in 40 games for Sundowns to date.

The 32-year-old has only conceded 14 goals, with only six of those in the league, where he has played 18 matches.

What was incredible about Monday for Williams was that it was the first time that he got to reach 40 games at club level in a single season, while pushing his career count to 429.

He played 39 games during the 2015/16 campaign at SuperSport United and reached 38 last term in what was his first season at Sundowns.

The worth of his club appearances this season is 3,660 minutes – the most by any player at Sundowns, where he has not been involved in only eight games.

Williams has also played 11 games for Bafana Bafana this season, including the 3-3 FIFA Series draw against Algeria in March.

The man from Gqeberha has played every minute for Bafana whenever he has featured, including seven at the AFCON finals, where he was voted the best keeper.

He has played two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and featured in another friendly against Cote d’Ivoire in October.

This means Williams is just three games from reaching 5,000 minutes of football this season, which has ignited discussions about him in the Gulf Region with preliminary talks already underway in attempting to entice him.
