In the gripping series finale of The River on 1Magic, which aired in February, the fugitive Lindiwe Dlamini (Sindi Dlathu) was on the brink of successfully fleeing from the authorities with her husband, Bangizwe Zwane (Siyabonga Thwala). However, the escape took a dramatic turn when Lindiwe betrayed Bangizwe, leading to his unexpected death by gunshot.

Now, the multi-award-winning Thwala is back and ready to star as prominent businessman and political stalwart Khaya Bhodoza in Showmax's upcoming series, Empini. The 52-part, action-packed drama launches on 23 May.

"I've played many roles in my career, but I am particularly excited about my role in Empini as it will showcase the many facets of myself as a performer. This role has stretched me tremendously, mentally and physically," Thwala said.

Empini is set in the dangerous world of the private VIP security industry.

Teasing what viewers can look forward to from the show, the former Isibaya actor said it will showcase the high-quality content local productions continue to offer.

"From the cast to the crew, each and every person on set has shown so much passion and drive in ensuring that Empini is viewed as a production of high quality. It is a project that I pride myself on being a part of," he said.
