ActionSA's Eastern Cape leader, Athol Trollip, has threatened to take the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality to court over sewage spills polluting rivers in East London.Trollip visited the metro on Tuesday and Wednesday to campaign for his party ahead of the 29 May elections.

He was shown a burst sewer manhole in the Egoli township near East London, where locals complained of a pungent smell hanging over the area.

"This has been going on for quite a while. The smell that comes out of it is so unbearable, especially when it is hot," said Egoli resident Natasha Daniels.
