Homeless people occupying some of the incomplete and abandoned 173 houses in the Montrose housing project, in Randfontein, which had been earmarked for military veterans, could find themselves back on the streets.
The houses are part of the now-abandoned R11 billion Mantrose Mega-City project, which was launched in 2017 by former premier David Makhura and then-MEC Paul Mashatile.
Residents claimed the project was abandoned after the developer said he had run out of funds to pay subcontractors because of construction mafia demands.
