It was on a sunny day at Germiston Stadium on 9 December 2007, when Moroka Swallows striker James Chamanga set a record for scoring the most goals in a single Premier Soccer League (PSL) match against Platinum Stars.
That long-standing feat of five goals by the Zambian great was matched this past weekend, 16 years and four months later, on a chilly autumn night at the famous Danie Craven Stadium when Stellenbosch FC forward Iqraam Rayners, 28, sparked with a glimmer in his eye against Polokwane City.
The historic evening saw "Ikkie" rise to the top of the goalscoring charts with 13 goals for the season ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns ace Lucas Ribeiro (11) and Pirates' Tshegofatso Mabasa (11) and slowly cemented Stellies' second place in the league as they look to snatch a place in next season's CAF Champions League ahead of Orlando Pirates.
