DJ KOTINI is grateful to the late Big Nuz star Mampintsha.

The DJ dedicated his Metro FM Music award to Mampintsha, who did a song with him before he died.

The 40-year-old Kotini from Mandeni, KZN, believes Mampintsha is a good angel to him after he scooped his first-ever music award.

DJ Kotini, whose real name is Siyabonga Zikode, scooped the Best Kwaito/Gqom awards with his Hello song, featuring Big Nuz, Mshayi and Mr Thela.

The Metro FM Music Awards were held at the Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 27 April.

He said the late Mampintsha's winning spirit is still with them, and he's honoured to scoop big awards like the Metro Award.

"We recorded the song with Mampintsha in March 2022, and he died in December 2022. Unfortunately, the song was released in 2023 when he was no more.

"Now the song has scooped the best award, and it's still a hit song, and it was on the top ten of Ukhozi FM Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka 2023/24," he said.

Kotini said that although he won big during the event, he was hurt because Mampintsha wasn't alive to experience it.

"Due to a lot of work and long-distance travelling, I was late and unable to go on stage and accept my award when it was announced.

"I flew from Durban to Joburg, then I drove from Joburg to Mpumalanga. Unfortunately, I was late, and I apologise to all the people who voted for me and were expecting to see the award," he said.

DJ Kotini said his song brought Big Nuz together after they hadn't worked together for years, and after the song, Big Nuz reunited and recorded their hit track, titled Ngeke Ngivume.
