Former Egyptian Premier League star Mohamed Selliti believes Rulani Mokwena's Mamelodi Sundowns are the best team in Africa.

A former African international has claimed that Rulani Mokwena's Mamelodi Sundowns are better than this season's CAF Champions League finalists, Al Ahly and Esperance de Sportive Tunis, combined.

Ex-Ismaily SC star Mohamed Selliti has looked ahead to this year's final of the continental tournament between Ahly and Esperance, insisting that both teams have flaws preventing them from reaching the Brazilians' level.

The Tunisian outfit picked up a 2-0 aggregate victory over Masandawana when the sides met in the semi-finals, while Al Ahly beat TP Mazembe 3-0 on aggregate to progress to the decider.

The final will take place over two legs, with the first scheduled for this Saturday, 18 May, and the second set to be played a week later.

Despite both sides putting up a strong showing in the tournament thus far, though, ex-Tunisia international Selliti believes they both have issues that need to be addressed.

"There are shortcomings in Al Ahly and Esperance at the present time," he said, per Ahly Online

"Al Ahly is missing a distinguished player in the position of outright striker, and Esperance has absences, but it has begun to restore the spirit and the system."

The former striker went on to state that he was surprised when the South African giants were knocked out of the continental competition.

"Sundowns is the strongest team on the African continent currently, and no one can say anything other than that," Selliti added.

"If Al Ahly and Esperance meet in one team, they will not be as strong as Sundowns.

"It was a big surprise that Sundowns bid farewell to the African Champions League this season. They are always a candidate to win it.”
