Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, schools in South Africa have been closed.
This circumstance has required parents to step up in the place of educators as best they can and we've found several online resources that can help with this.
These are suitable for primary school-aged children.
The Science Kids website provide quizzes, lessons, videos, pictures, experiments and games on several science related topics and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
Some of their content is printable and all of it is free.
MzanziKids
MzanziKids is available on Android and IOS to help children from the age 2 to 6 learn and develop language skills in their mother tongue, or in one of the other official South African languages.
The app has 12 themes suitable for young children through an integration of images and phonetics to encourage confidence, fluency and comprehension in their chosen language.

Smartick is an online math platform for children from the ages of four to fourteen in South Africa.
Michaela from Smartick says, "Due to school closings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Smartick’s team wants to show their support by offering the method for FREE for 15 days while schools are closed."
On their site they have videos and pictures available.
E-learning for kids is a non-profit organization that provides free curriculum based primary education to children world wide.
It was launched in the USA in 2004 and in the Netherlands in 2007, and is now available in several other countries.
Vodacom E-school
The Vodacom free e-school is another option for parents and children.
The platform provides access to online classes from grades 3 to 7 promising to add more grades soon.

Snapplify
Snapplify.com is a free online portal that gives grades 1 to 12 access to books and other study material.
It also has a reader app where one can download literature reading material.
Funbrain is a global platform that provides education games, videos, reading material and math material for children in grade one to grade eight.
The colourful site is easy to navigate and will make learning fun for your child.

Optimi
Optimi is part of the PSG group and they have released a huge library of free with high-quality educational content that complies with the CAPS curriculum.
Optimi's homeschooling company that offers free lessons for grade 10 to 12 learners.
iCollege
iCollege is a private higher educational institution for underprivileged SA students.
It was created to keep students studying during the national lockdown with a dataless App.
To qualify to study at iCollege, students must be South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 27, unemployed, not claiming UIF.
They must have a minimum grade 10 qualification.
iCollege has multiple intakes throughout the year and students can still enrol by going online to www.icollegeint.co.za
