US-based mother and daughter duo proudly salvaged more than £27,000 (over R 600 000) worth of discarded items a year searching through huge shop dumpsters, sharing 80% of their earnings between charities and friends.

Photographer Tamara Benavente and her mom, Ana Ortiz, first began dumpster diving in 2016, after being inspired by a YouTube video, and today the pair post their adventures to their own channel called Dumpster Chicks.

Some of the most expensive items the two have found include hair straighteners and designer shoes.
