AFTER 14 years as an ANC councillor at the Giyani local municipality, Papa Penny has left the party for uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party.

The renowned musician and politician, known as the "Shangaan Disco King," told Daily Sun he resigned from the ANC on Monday, 13 May, and joined the MK party the same day.

He said he can't disclose his reasons for quitting because he's a "respectable man". He also mentioned feeling undermined and only getting attention when announcing a divorce, whether from his wife or the ANC.

"Today, my name is everywhere because I divorced the ANC. Leaving the ANC is not a sin but my democratic right. How many comrades have left their parties?" he asked.

Penny Penny described his quitting as an internal matter.

"I'm a disciplined comrade and won't spoil where I come from," he stated.

He joined MK because he felt it was the right party for him and won't speak ill of his former political home. He's excited to perform at an MK event at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, on Saturday, 18 May.

"Everything will be Ahe. My talent is to sing, and I haven't betrayed anyone by performing there," he said.

MK Party spokesman in Limpopo Peter Maluleke confirmed Papa Penny's membership and expressed joy, describing him as an asset, a respected community builder, prominent musician, and politician of honour.
