She's been in the public eye since 1978, but that hasn't stopped Michelle Pfeiffer from keeping an incredibly low profile.
Her return to the big screen as Janet Van Dyne in Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp has allowed the actress and mom to repackage herself for younger audiences, and her new Instagram account is just one way she's become more vocal about her personal life.
"It’s been terrifying for me, honestly," the actress admitted in an interview with InStyle about entering the world of social media, confessing that her toned-down approach to fame has been quite deliberate.
The icon posed for the March cover of the US magazine and opened up about her upcoming roles, revealing that it was her children, Claudia Rose and John Henry, who pushed her to get back to work.
"‘Mom, are you ever going to go back to work?’ I was like, ‘What do you mean? I’m home! Isn’t that great?’ It kind of hurt my feelings."
Now, aged 26 and 24, her children have long left the nest and the actress recalls the first time she felt the need to start letting go of her role as a mom, and shifting her focus back to her career.
"When my daughter went off to college and I realised I had only a few years left with my son, I thought, 'OK, this is going to be really hard for me, and I’d better get something going here, because I’m going to feel really empty,'" she said.

The 60-year-old also spoke about her brand-new fragrance line called Henry Rose, named after her children.
In an interview with W Magazine, Michelle explained that the idea for her fragrance was inspired by both her kids and extended family members.
"The genesis of it really was the birth of my children. I began to look at the world through their eyes... Around that same time, my father and my best friend were diagnosed with cancer, so it was a real wakeup call for me. I started to look at health from a different point of view. I started looking for products that were safer."
Referring to herself now as an "empty-nester" in a recent appearance on the Today show, the legend is showing no sign of slowing down. She's clearly taken inspiration from one her most iconic roles...
Nine lives much, Ms Pfeiffer.
