After finding out you’re pregnant you’ll most likely be awash of emotions. Said emotions will probably progress from crippling fear to inevitable joy, with a rollercoaster of trepidation and excitement in between, as you make your way through every late night craving, bout of morning sickness and visit to the doctor’s rooms to check on the progress of their little one.

But for Silvina Ibarra and Daniel Iturria, a blind Argentinian couple, the journey hasn’t been quite that simple, with their sight impairment posing its own set of challenges.

Gynaecologist Mario Pellizari explains that it’s important for all expecting parents to meet and bond with their babies while they’re still in the womb.

So they made something magical happened...

Using Silvina’s sonogram, they printed a 3D model of their little one for Silvina and Daniel to feel, to see.

“It was a beautiful experience to be able to touch the face of the baby, to have an image made for us of how she will be before she was [sic] born. Otherwise, we had to rely on other people’s descriptions,” said Silvina. Daniel commented, “It was truly a beautiful experience to be able to touch Malena’s face before she is born…”

“It made us both very happy,” he concluded, placing his hand over Silvina’s belly.
